The Northern Colorado Slammin' Famine team sends a hearty thank you to everyone who contributed and participated two the second-annual event. It was another huge success!
Nearly 2,400 volunteers helped the weekend of the event to pack 559,872 meals—that is 2,592 boxes of meals that will feed 1,533 kids for an entire year! The meals were distributed to Nicaragua and Haiti through Feed My Starving Children partner Convoy of Hope. Convoy of Hope is one of the largest distributors of FMSC meals. They take part in clean water and sanitation initiatives and promote healthy environments in areas where people are starving. In addition to the meals, Northern Colorado donated just over $75,000 to provide additional food and help fund the ministry of FMSC.
6,200 children die from starvation each day. That’s a problem we can help stop. Feed My Starving Children gets 99% of these meals to their intended recipients. 92% of donations go directly to purchasing food and supplies for the meal packs.
Thank you to the Heseders and the Sunday School for heading up Saint John’s participation in this great ministry. We hope you are all looking forward to helping out yet again next year!
“Hesed” is a Hebrew word that means “kindness”, “mercy”, “loyalty”, “loving-kindness” or “steadfastness.” It’s the way God intends us to live together—a “love your neighbor as yourself,” active, selfless, sacrificial, caring-for-one-another brand of living contradictory to our fallen natures. The “Heseders” are continually looking to work together to share some small measure of God’s extraordinary love. Won’t you join us?
