For the fourth year, the Heseders were astounded at how much “stuff” was donated for our annual Yard Sale—and then, just days later, how much sold! It was another great fundraiser for the Mission team of Saint John's.
Del and Jo Fredin led the group of volunteers who worked all week (not to mention all the planning that went in before the week of the sale) to get all of the items moved from the storage spaces—the stage, the Music Room and the Junior Youth Room—into the Large Fellowship Hall. We also had new deliveries coming in all week! Every thing, whether a bag of clothes or a couch, had to be inspected, priced and moved to the proper spot.
Yes, we did still have some Christmas things left!
Then, though already exhausted from a week of hard work, the volunteers showed up early Friday morning for the opening day rush! And we were swamped with buyers all morning. The bulk of sales came in between opening and the early afternoon. We sold mattresses, furniture, dishes, jewelry, plants and concessions. Phew!
By the end of Saturday (after the runaround trying to find somewhere to drop off the trailer full of leftover items), we had raised over $3,500. It's a hard week of work, but a worthwhile one! Many thanks to Jo and Del and all the other volunteers who made this fundraiser possible!
“Hesed” is a Hebrew word that means “kindness”, “mercy”, “loyalty”, “loving-kindness” or “steadfastness.” It’s the way God intends us to live together—a “love your neighbor as yourself,” active, selfless, sacrificial, caring-for-one-another brand of living contradictory to our fallen natures. The “Heseders” are continually looking to work together to share some small measure of God’s extraordinary love. Won’t you join us?
