It's time to start preparing for our summer mission! We have a big fundraiser coming soon, and are ready to start recruiting for the mission trip to the Wind River Reservation in Wyoming.
Yard Sale
The May Yard Sale is May 29 and 30! Please bring your donations to the Large Fellowship Hall beginning Sunday, May 17. We'd appreciate getting some volunteers to assist with set up on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday that week. There will be many items to sort through and price! And we will, of course, be seeking some help for the sale days, Friday and Saturday. There is a signup sheet at the Welcome Center, or you can check in with Jo and Del Fredin with any questions.
As you prepare your donations, please remember that we cannot accept old CRT TVs or monitors or other large electronics. Flat screens are fine. The rest the Heseders have to pay to have reecycled if they don't sell (and they tend not to sell!). Household items, on the other hand, do sell very well! If you need help with delivery to the church, check with the Fredins, as a truck will be available one or two days before the sale.
After dropping off your donations earlier in the week, don't forget to come back and shop on Friday and Saturday!
Wind River Mission News
Wind River is the Native American Reservation in Wyoming, about five hours north and west of Fort Collins. The Heseders have been involved with the LCMS Mission Church in Fort Washakie since last summer. We are planning a mission trip there August 1–7, 2015. Depending on how many of our congregation attend, we hope to do a variety of projects:
- Putting on a Vacation Bible School for the children.
- Doing maintenance and clean-up at the church.
- Helping with their clothing bank.
- Completing projects for the Head Start programs on the reservation.
If you and your family have ever wanted to “dip a toe in the water” of the mission field, this will be a great chance to do so with little expense. We will get a block of rooms at a hotel in Lander, Wyoming, about fifteen minutes from the mission church. We will worship with the congregation on Sunday, August 2, then do various projects during the week. You can come for all or part of the week, however the Lord leads you. Please save the dates and start praying now. Check the bulletin for further updates and more specific details.
Pastor Judson, the mission pastor at Wind River Lutheran Mission Church, has worshiped with us twice recently. He spends a few days a month in Denver at the Ronald McDonald House for Children with his wife and children. Pastor and Kira’s youngest son, Samuel, has Spinal Muscular Atrophy. He is in clinical trials at Children’s Hospital and has been showing some miraculous small improvements in his mobility. Kira and Samuel have been at the Ronald McDonald house since February, with no plans of returning home yet. Please continue to keep this family in your prayers, as at this time only God knows what is ahead for them.
“Hesed” is a Hebrew word that means “kindness”, “mercy”, “loyalty”, “loving-kindness” or “steadfastness.” It’s the way God intends us to live together—a “love your neighbor as yourself”, active, selfless, sacrificial, caring-for-one-another brand of living contradictory to our fallen natures. The “Heseders” are continually looking to work together to share some small measure of God’s extraordinary love. Won’t you join us?
