The church council meets on the third Tuesday of every month. If you have a question or comment about a topic you read about here—or about anything pertaining to the life of Saint John’s—please contact one of your Council members. Here is a summary of the January meeting:
Alma Kirk, Director and Teacher of Open Arms Preschool, will be retiring at the end of the school year. The Preschool board is mapping out a plan of action.
Our treasurer, Jennifer Musgrave, has resigned due to so many commitments. Ruth Seiler has volunteered to fill the position until the November election.
Pat Prill reported for the Worship Arts Committee that the Church now has all artificial trees. They are planning new and impressive things for Lent.
The Sunday School kids are going to do a “Hearts for Jesus” program for February. They will be collecting bandaids and raise money for the Christ Clinic supply drive. The New Life Festival will be held again this year. VBS will be the first week in June. The VBS theme will be “Weird Animals”, based on the premise that even if you are different, God still loves you.
In February, Dale Walters (Adult Education Board) will talk to Bible Study and try and get input as to what we would like to see in future Bible classes.
Changes to the Constitution and Bylaws were discussed. Some of the changes are minor. We will be discussing the limitation on numbers of Boards congregational members can serve on since we have a shortage of people volunteering to serve.
The thirteen members of the Church Council are the “Board of Directors” of the congregation, tasked with general oversight of the life and activities of the congregation to the end that everything be done in accordance with the Constitution and Bylaws.
