The church council meets on the third Tuesday of every month. If you have a question or comment about a topic you read about here—or about anything pertaining to the life of Saint John’s—please contact one of your Council members. Here is a summary of the November meeting:
Most of November’s Church Council meeting was devoted to final preparation for our annual Fall Voters’ Meeting, which was held on November 17. One notable item was a Preschool Board report from Jo Fredin, in which she laid out exciting plans in the making to re-vitalize the preschool. It has been suffering from a declining enrollment. Janet Barr, Kala Loptien and Jennifer Musgrave have all agreed to add their talents to the board.
Council also approved funds to improve the exterior lighting on the church and in the parking lot. The annual Voter’s Meeting featured approval of our budget for 2014, Election of officers and council members, and approval of the slate of Lay Ministers and Saint John’s Foundation members.
With the help of the Human Resources Board the Church Council recommended, and the congregation approved, the creation of the position of Parish Administrator. This position defines and formalizes a role of supervising and directing the administrative functions of the church. It will also enable our pastor to focus on the ministerial functions of his office and the pastoral support of our members. We enthusiastically welcome Tom Miles as our first Parish Administrator!
The thirteen members of the Church Council are the “Board of Directors” of the congregation, tasked with general oversight of the life and activities of the congregation to the end that everything be done in accordance with the Constitution and Bylaws.
