In the book of Numbers, Moses complains to the Lord that his burden is too great. God took some of the Spirit that He had bestowed on Moses and put it on the seventy elders of Israel whom Moses had gathered. Empowered by the Spirit, the elders prophesied.
Many years later, our risen Lord Jesus poured out His Holy Spirit on His disciples at the harvest feast of Pentecost. When the noise of wind swept through the enclosed room and tongues of flame appeared over the heads of each of the apostles, they, too, were filled with the Holy Spirit and started proclaiming the wonders of God.
The Lord Jesus grants this same Spirit to His Church on earth to proclaim Him glorified on the cross and risen victorious from the grave. Our crucified and risen Lord pours out His Holy Spirit in “rivers of living water” and invites everyone who thirsts to come to Him and drink freely. Through this life-giving work of the Holy Spirit, we hear contemporary apostles “telling in our own tongues the mighty works of God,” that “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
