When the people sinned by complaining “against God and against Moses,” the Lord called them to repentance by sending venomous snakes. But God also provided a means of rescue: He instructed Moses to “make a fiery serpent and set it on a pole” for the people to look and be healed. God sent His son into the world and lifted Him up on the pole of the cross, that whoever looks to Him in faith may have eternal life. “When we were dead in our trespasses,” God loved us, calling us to repentance and raising us up with Christ to live with Him in the heavenly realms.
