The Gospel of Mark begins with John the Baptist appearing and “proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.” We still practice the ministry of this forerunner to Christ in the preaching of Law and Gospel and the celebration of the sacrament of Holy Baptism. Through this word and sacrament, the Good Shepherd will “” Jesus brings comfort and hope to His people in the forgiveness of sins and the promise of “new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.”
