Thanks to past donations from the congregation, the Human Needs Board was able to prepare twelve Thanksgiving baskets for families with children at Laurel School. Saint John’s has the privilege of supporting this special group of students with backpacks and school supplies in the Fall and holiday baskets during the school year. The Thanksgiving Baskets were filled with turkey and all the fixings for a Thanksgiving meal.

The congregation will again have the opportunity to serve these Laurel children and nearly 100 other children throughout our community with the Christmas Gift Tree program. Beginning November 29, the Board will place wish lists, received from Laurel School, Catholic Charities Northern and the Alpha Center, on the Christmas Gift Tree by the Welcome Center. Those who are able are asked to take a tag, purchase and wrap gifts for the child on the tag, and return the gifts to the Welcome Center by Sunday, December 13. The gifts will be delivered in plenty of time to bring the joy of Christmas to our neighbors.

In January, the Board will seek the congregation’s help to support Homeless Gear, a local charity that provides used camping gear to the homeless in Colorado. By distributing unused or outdated outdoor equipment, Homeless Gear helps keep people safe and warm through the winter. The Human Needs Board will provide lists of suggested donations at the Welcome Center beginning in early January. Gently-used items or monetary contributions may be dropped off until January 25.

If you or your family need financial help during the holidays, please contact Pastor Bestian for counseling and assistance.
