Thanks to the generous gifts from Saint John’s congregation and member’s friends and families, we were able to provide 71 gifts to homeless children in the McKinney program at Laurel School and from Catholic Charities Northern. What a wonderful way to brighten up the holidays for these children living in unfortunate circumstances!
We also provided a number of gift certificates to be used by the Alpha Pregnancy Resource Center to assist expectant families pay some of the unexpected expenses that go along with pregnancy and a new addition to a family.
Our next project: Homelessness has been increasing steadily since Colorado starting conducting counts in the late 1990s. What happens to those people and families unable to get into a shelter during a cold night? And what do they do for warmth during cold winter days?
Homeless individuals and families find shelter in temporary shelters, parks, abandoned buildings, cars or sidewalks. Without a warm place to go, they need the sort of equipment most of us only pull out when we’ll be “roughing it” on a vacation in the mountains. In January, the Human Needs Board will be collecting new and used camping gear for the city’s homeless. Watch the bulletin for details on this important service project!
