Saint John’s Mission Guild is a group of ladies who meet once a month for devotions, Bible study, mission education and fellowship. Through monthly free-will offerings, we provide support to a non-profit organization of our choosing, decided at the first of each year. Through our Mite box program, we support various missions in the United States and around the world. One major event of the year is our sponsorship of the Fall Brunch, Plant and Bake Sale each October, which benefits a needy individual or organization.
Mission Guild is affiliated with the LWML (Lutheran Women’s Missionary League), also known as Lutheran Women in Mission. LWML has been the official women’s auxiliary of the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod for over 77 years. The official organization was formed in Chicago in 1942. The national LWML consists of forty districts across the country; there are a number of zones in each district and each zone has several local societies. Our Mission Guild was chartered in 1948 and is in the Northern Zone of the Rocky Mountain District. LWML has a national membership of about 250,000 women.
The LWML seeks to develop and maintain a greater mission consciousness among women of the LCMS through education, inspiration and service. A major emphasis is the support of mission and ministry throughout the world by means of Mite box offerings. Since the organization's inception, these Mite box offerings have funded tens of millions of dollars in mission grants, which are chosen at conventions every year, either at the national or district level. You can read about these grant recipients each month in the Saint John’s Eagle newsletter.
If you have a heart for missions and like good old fashioned fellowship, we would love to have you join us in Mission Guild. We meet on the first Tuesday of the month at 10:30 AM upstairs in room 301. If you are unable to attend meetings but would still like to contribute to the mission cause, Mite boxes are available for anyone.
