The Easter season is the “week of weeks”, or seven weeks, that follow Easter Sunday. During this time we celebrate—even more than usual—the presence of the risen Christ among us, and the changed world that resulted from Jesus’ victory over sin and death.
In our Sunday morning Bible study during these weeks, we will be embarking on a historical examination of Holy Week by Dr. Paul L. Maier, renowned historian, professor and author. Dr. Maier visited Saint John’s a number of years ago, and many of you may know him from his books: the historical novels Pontius Pilate and The Flames of Rome or his best selling novel, A Skeleton in God’s Closet (all of which are available in Saint John’s library, by the way!).
The Week that Changed the World is a documentary that “takes viewers step by step through the events of Holy Week—shedding light on the key players, unraveling the political intrigue, and answering longstanding questions about what happened, and why.” We will view the documentary in pieces and review each section in class discussion.
Please join us in Bible study every Sunday morning after Easter as we contemplate and celebrate the changed world that God brought about during Holy Week.
