False prophets preach what their hearers want to hear, promising peace when there will be war, or famine, or pestilence. The preaching of truth confronts sin and death, and puts us at odds with the world. But we belong “to Him who has been raised from the dead, in order that we may bear fruit for God.” We are divided from all earthly ties, each of us even from our own life. Yet whoever takes up his cross to follow Christ finds new life in Him.
