Here are a few things you'll want to know about that are happening in January and February:
Third Thursday Potluck and Program
Wayne Sundberg, a Fort Collins historian and author, will be the guest speaker at our January Elderberries luncheon. Wayne has written many books on the history of Fort Collins. His presentation will be on how the streets of Fort Collins were named after early pioneers of Fort Collins. He will also have copies of his latest book for sale for those who might be interested. It should be a very informative and interesting presentation.
Please come and invite a friend to join us! It's going to be great fun. This is our usual Third Thursday event, on January 15, beginning at noon. Wayne will join us for lunch and at that time we can get acquainted with him. The presentation will follow the luncheon. Please bring a dish to share. If you're inviting friends, be sure to let them know that this is a potluck! (Thanks to Sandra Shields for this information.)
Madagascar Mission Presentation
Kimberly Pepmiller and Jo Fredin will share stories and photos from their mission trip to Madagascar, where they helped to provide medical services in several Malagasy villages. The presentation is on January 25 at 10:30 AM in the Large Fellowship Hall. Visit www.StJohnsFC.org (click on “Hesed Journal” under the “News” menu tab) to read their daily journal entries from the trip.
First Sunday “Eat and Greet” Potluck
Bring a dish to share and stick around after the Bible Study Hour to enjoy good food and great fellowship at this picnic lunch, hosted by the Board of Fellowship. We meet on February 1 at 11:30 AM in the Large Fellowship Hall.
Boy Scout Troop 96 Pancake Breakfast
Our scout troop will be serving their annual pancake and sausage breakfast in the Large Fellowship Hall after the worship service on February 8. $5 adult and $3 children tickets will be available at the door. The proceeds support the Troop's outdoor adventures.
In the Transfiguration, the culmination of the Epiphany Season, Jesus is revealed to his disciples as the Son of God, glowing “as bright as a flash of lightning.” The service is at 9:00 AM on February 15 in the Worship Center.
On Ash Wednesday, we reflect on our mortality, but also rejoice in our hope: that Jesus, our Savior, suffered and died to rescue us from sin and save us from the finality of death. On Wednesday, February 18, we will worship at 11:00 AM and 6:30 PM services. We will celebrate Holy Communion at both services. Come and enjoy a meal at Noon and 5:45 pm in the Large Fellowship Hall.
Midweek Lenten Series
We will gather for worship on the Wednesdays of Lent, beginning with Ash Wednesday on February 18 (see above) and continuing through March 25. The services will be at 11:00 AM and 6:30 PM services, with meals at Noon and 5:45 PM. Please join us for worship and meditation through the Lenten season.
