Isaiah, wondering how we who make ourselves God's enemies can be saved, asks God to “rend the heavens and come down” and bring justice to the world. Yet instead of punishing us in His anger, the Lord comes in meekness and humility to save us by His grace. We need not fear death or judgement, for we are secure in the knowledge that our cries of “Hosanna”—that is, “Lord, save us!”—are answered by Jesus, the promised Messiah. We are brought into His fellowship by grace, confirmed in His grace by the bestowing of the gifts of the Spirit and sent with His disciples to share this good news to all the world.
