Our Alpha Center baby bottle drive will begin on Mother’s Day, May 8. Board members will be handing out empty baby bottles at the doors as you exit. Please fill them with change or a check to help support the Alpha Center ministry. Alpha Center provides free counseling to young adults at critical times in their lives. They are a pro-life organization that Saint John’s has supported for a number of years as a community outreach program. Kala Lopien is a full time employee of the Alpha Center. Ask her sometime how much she loves her job!

Last year we donated over $700 to this worthy local mission. However, we did have a few bottles that never returned! If you have a bottle leftover from last year, please bring it in between Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. Each bottle costs Alpha Center a dollar and each year they have a large number unaccounted for. Let’s be sure Saint John’s supports Alpha Center in their mission and does not detract from their efforts!

Baby Care Kits were quite the hit at Saint John’s this spring! With your generous donations of items, cash and Thrivent dollars we were able to put together 48 kits! The care kits went to Lutheran World Relief, where they are given to needy families all over the globe.

Items were sorted by Chris Rattenborg, Carol Sparks and Sandy Shields. Thanks for your help assembling the kits on Palm Sunday. On Monday of Holy Week Chris Rattenborg, Lola Funke and Jane Kinney put the finishing touches on the packing, adding any necessary items to complete the kits. The next day Bill and Chris Rattenborg took the packages to the LWR distribution center in Denver. A special thanks to Chris for the inspiration and sweat she put into this project.

The Board of Human Needs finds opportunities for the members of Saint John’s to provide a Christian witness by helping people in the community struggling with daily necessities.
