Open Arms Preschool children have had an exciting last two months. In February we did some pretend travel to Asia and Africa. One of our parents who spent some time in Japan brought items from Japan and taught the children some Japanese crafts. We also learned about community helpers with visits to the hospital and fire station and visits to the preschool from police officers and fire fighters to help the children learn about safety.
In March we learned about dinosaurs and had lots of fun creating our own dinosaurs from paper plates, paper bags, and modeling goop. We spent a week learning about whales, sharks, ocean fish, the octopus and coral reefs. A father who has done some snorkeling among the coral reefs brought some shells, coral and other items to help the children learn more about life on the reefs. Take a walk down the preschool hallway and see the life-size whale, sharks in the ocean and our own coral reefs on display! Ocean fish pictures created by the preschool class are also part of the Lenten Art Show in the Large Fellowship Hall. After spring break we had fun learning about fairy tales and nursery rhymes. The Pre-K class also studied desert, savannah and wetland habitats. We also celebrated the resurrection of Christ.
In April the Pre-K class will study forest and rain forest habitats, visit the CSU vet hospital, travel to Europe, learn about insects, ecology and farm animals. The preschool class will learn about opposites, rainbows, spring, insects, the Three Pigs and the Three Billy Goats Gruff. We will also do parent/teacher conferences for each child.
The parents are also doing a special fund raiser to purchase replacement bikes for the playground and to support a scholarship fund for families who need a little help with tuition. We would really appreciate the help from members and friends of Saint John’s. During the week of April 5 to 9, stop by Chick-fil-A and purchase a yummy meal. Present the coupon, available at the Welcome Center, and the preschool will receive 20% of the sales during that week. You can dine in or use the coupon for drive-through orders. Please help us with this event!
We are still accepting registrations for fall 2010-2011 classes. The morning Pre-K class is full, but we have openings in the afternoon class. The two-day preschool class is beginning to fill too, so get your registration forms turned in and tell all your friends and neighbors about our wonderful program offered at Open Arms Preschool! Brochures are available in the rack by the Welcome Center, in the church office, and on the shelf in the hall near the preschool classroom.
