To everyone at Saint John’s: Thank you so much for supporting me while at seminary! It’s so good to hear about all the neat things going on at Saint John’s from my parents. I can’t wait to be back with you all for Christmas. The financial assistance and prayers have been such a blessing. My time at the seminary so far has been a blast! Support from you and many others reminds me just how blessed my time at the seminary is by God and His purpose.
Honestly, being at the seminary is somewhat surreal. I didn’t know what to expect, having looked forward to this for more than five years. It was a mixture of excitement and fear as I honestly consider what I’m doing. It was a welcomed transition, though. I do love new experiences, and meeting new people, so my time here so far has been a wonderful adventure. Currently I’m only in one class, Greek. It’s a doozy for sure! Despite all the work it is quite rewarding to be working with God’s Word in the original languages.
I enjoy the friends and atmosphere of the seminary but I do try and get off campus when I can. My field work church just south of St. Louis in Oakville is going to be a great experience in my formation as a servant of the church. It’s a much bigger church with a few full time pastors. There are definitely blessings and challenges that come with a church that large. I am learning so much from the staff and people there. The congregation there is great; not as great as you all, though!
I’m also working to try and pay some of the tuition. I started working around the city as a parking valet. The money is nice but secretly I’m hoping I get to drive a Lamborghini! For fun I’ve been doing plenty of motorcycle riding and I’ve even found a few guys at the seminary who ride. We’ve had a good time. Plus, riding has led me to meet many people who aren’t usually the “church-going” crowd. Experiences like these even make me wonder and dream about whether God might use me as a church planter in the future. Only God knows what He’s got for me!
Thank you again for supporting me in my education! Thank you for supporting me financially and in prayer. There are so many new and exciting opportunities—but stresses, as well—as I learn to juggle it all. I am deeply looking forward to seeing you all again during Christmas break!
