Signage Project Funded!

The exterior signage project is a go! Thanks to donations from members and from the Saint John’s Foundation, the project is now fully funded. The Saint John’s Lutheran Foundation provided a significant portion of the money from its undesignated fund and from a couple of memorial funds. In addition, many individuals made special donations. Thank you to all who contributed to the Signage Fund Project!

As you have no doubt noticed, the new blue interior signs are already up, placed at strategic locations throughout the church building to mark rooms around the church and to help guide visitors to appropriate locations. The Board of Outreach is now ordering the exterior signs, including a large sign outside the south entrance, several signs on the north side of the church, guiding visitors to the Sanctuary, office and Fellowship Halls, and signs at each of the entrances to the parking lot—on Elizabeth, Mathews and Garfield Streets. Each of the signs will be wired for lighting.

It will take some time to assemble and install the signs. Each sign will be hewn from sandstone to match the current exterior Saint John’s sign located on the north side of the church and installed with appropriate lighting once they arrive. The Board of Outreach hopes to complete installation sometime prior to the arrival of winter. Watch the newsletter and bulletin for progress reports!

Again, thank you to all who have made this signage project such a wonderful success. If you have questions, please contact any member of the Board of Outreach for additional information.

By the way, if you tune in to AM 600 KCOL, listen for the radio spots promoting Saint John’s special Independence Day services. Let a Board member know if you hear the ads!

Signage Project Fundraising

Have you noticed the new signs in the church building? Our Signage Project is moving forward! Many thanks to the Board of Trustees and the Board of Outreach members, who mounted the great-looking blue signs. These interior signs will make our building more accessible to guests and visitors!

The Board of Outreach extends a big “Thank you” to the Foundation and to the members who have so donated so generously to this project. We have raised $2,450 so far. This covers the $500 cost of the interior signs and leaves just $2,100 left to collect to complete Phase II, the exterior signs.

The exterior signs will include a large sign at the south entrance, signs on the north side of the church building, parking signs at the three entrances to the lot and improved lighting for better sign visibility at night events. They will be hewn from the same type of sandstone that was used to create the large sign in front of the church. We will save money by having all of the signs cut and installed at the same time.

Please continue to make your donations toward this project’s final phase! Write “signage” in the memo line of your check and drop it into the Sunday collection plate or deliver it to the church office.

Speaking of signage: watch for a fun upcoming fun event for the ole’ historic “Office” finger sign currently on the north side of the building. The Outreach Board is planning to sell the sign in a silent auction. Watch the bulletin for information!

If you have questions, please contact any member of the Board of Outreach.

Signage Project Proposal

On November 15, the Board of Outreach shared information about a fund raising project for additional signage needed inside and outside of the Saint John’s building. Since that date, $350 has been donated to the initial Foundation fund that was available for the project.

Additional donations, however, are still needed to cover the entire cost for all the signs to help guide visitors to appropriate locations at Saint John’s. If you would like to join those who have already contributed toward the signage project, please designate the term “signage” on your donation in the coming weeks and months and drop it in the collection plate or drop your donation off at the church office.

Saint John's Tumbler Project

Many of you have purchased the great looking Saint John’s tumblers to support the local first-time visitors project. The dark blue tumblers with the Saint John’s logo will continue to be available for sale for $15 at the Welcome Center after services or during the week at the church office. They make great gifts for friends or loved ones or for yourself!

The proceeds from the sale of tumblers are used to continue the project of providing tumblers in the gift bags for first-time local visitors. The blue Saint John’s gift bags, which contain information about Saint John’s and the tumbler, have been well-received by local people visiting our church for the first time. Remember to take a moment to welcome newcomers and invite them back to Saint John’s!

The Board of Outreach would like to thank all who have participated in setting up this wonderful outreach project and the more than 24 members who have volunteered to greet first time local visitors after services on Sunday mornings. If you are interested in helping to greet our visitors, please contact Dorothy Hull or Cheryl Poole of the Board of Outreach.
