In the Summer of 2012, Saint John’s is partnering with Peace With Christ Lutheran here in Fort Collins to serve the people God loves! Saint John’s hasn’t been directly involved in global missions for eight years and this will be a neat opportunity for us to serve. The mission trip will be an all-ages trip with the intent of rallying the whole congregation around helping people either in Nicaragua or Haiti. It will also be a great opportunity for us as a church to grow closer to each other as we do the work of the Kingdom. It’s a great thing when serving and unity go hand in hand.
The Haiti mission would involve us doing a variety of work to help get those people’s lives back together after the 2010 earthquake. There is still a great need for housing, clothing, medical treatment and basic amenities.
We are in the final stages of narrowing the location. The Nicaragua mission opportunity would involve partnering with the Lutheran Church of Nicaragua. The mission would include doing some construction for churches down there, possibly leading a VBS and loving some orphaned kids since the number of abandoned kids in Nicaragua is staggering.
Both locations provide opportunities for us to be the hands and feet of God and show others that great love we have been shown in Christ! There is such a variety of work to be done in either Nicaragua or Haiti. All ages and various talents will be useful to serve at either place. This is an opportunity for us to be a blessing to others but also be a blessing to our church back here in Fort Collins.
